Fastest Half Century In Ipl
The only question that emerges from Pat Cummins’ performances against Mumbai is “how?” There are few innings in the IPL that take everyone by surprise and Cummins’ innings was one of them.

Cummins struck in the 13th over as Kolkata needed 61 runs off 41 balls. The margin is not that big, but with bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills, it was a tough task. After his first-ball single, Cummins smashed a six and a four in the next two deliveries. But it was the 16th that changed everything. In the end, Cummins reached his half-century in just 14 balls, the joint-fastest with KL Rahul in the IPL.
After just one over, the batsman became the hero and probably ruined the bowler’s chance to play the rest of the season. Ironically, Australian batsman Cummins destroyed Australian bowler Sams.
Needing 35 runs to win in five overs, Kolkata were closing in on victory. But Cummins didn’t want the game to go deep, so he bundled all 35 runs into one. Unfortunately, Sams was the recipient. Cummins started with a back-to-back six and followed it up with four off the second ball. He then hit two back sixes. Sams then played a high kick that ended up being off-ball and went out of bounds on the free kick. To top it off, Cummins hit a six down the ground to make it 35 runs for one. This is the second most expensive over in the IPL and the first MI bowler to concede 30+ runs in an over.
After hitting the fastest half-century, Cummins ended the innings with a six and reached 56 off 15 balls at a strike rate of 373.3. In T20s, in an innings of 50+ runs, only Upul Bandara has scored a higher strike rate (385.7) in the SLC Twenty-20 tournament in 2015. This is the highest strike rate for a batsman in 50+ innings in IPL.

To add more to Cummins’ scintillating innings, he hit 10 boundaries, four fours and six maximums in just 15 balls. This is the most boundaries hit by a batsman in an IPL innings of 15 balls or less.
After an early setback, Suryakumar Yadav and Thilak Varma put on a partnership of 83 off just 49 balls for the fourth wicket. This partnership helped Mumbai reach a total of 139 in the final, which once seemed a long way off.
However, the big man from Trinidad provided an extra boost. Kieron Pollard bowled just five balls and that was enough to make an impact. He scored 22 runs off the five balls he faced at a strike rate of 440. In 20+ IPL runs, only Krunal Pandya had a higher strike rate (500) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020.
The five-time title holders have a habit of losing their first matches quite often. In the IPL, for the fifth time in the IPL season, Mumbai have lost their first three matches. No other team has lost more than twice the first three games of the season.
