MRS. Dhoni, in full Mahendra Singh Dhoni, (born 7 July 1981, Ranchi, State of Bihar [now Jharkhand], India) is an Indian cricketer who rose to prominence in the early 21st century, ending his tenure as captain of the Indian national team . who won the 2011 One Day Cricket World Cup.
Dhoni made his international debut in 2004. His talent with the bat came to the fore in an innings of 148 runs against Pakistan in his fifth international match. Within a year, he joined the Indian Test team, where he quickly established himself with a century (100 or more runs in one innings) against Pakistan. Despite his inexperience, Dhoni took over the captaincy of the one-day team in 2007 and led India to the World Twenty20 (T20) title. Series wins over Australia and Sri Lanka, among others, took India to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings for the first time in December 2009. Dhoni was awarded the ICC One Day International Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009. In the 2011 One Day World Cup, Dhoni’s innings of 91 not out – in front of his home crowd in Mumbai – was the breakthrough in India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the final. He also led India to the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup in 2015. Dhoni retired as India’s captain in 2017 after leading his country in 331 international matches, the most by a captain in the history of the sport. Three years later, he retired from international competition.
The explosion of T20 cricket in the Indian subcontinent paved the way for the establishment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. In the inaugural season of the league, Dhoni signed a contract with Chennai Super Kings for $1.5 million, which was the biggest contract for the IPL at the time. He later led the team to two consecutive titles (2010, 2011). The Super Kings franchise earned a two-season ban from the IRL in 2016 for its role in a match-fixing scandal, and Dhoni then joined Rising Pune Supergiant. He returned to Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and the team won the IPL championship that year and in 2021. Apart from Australian legend Ellyse Perry, Indian batsman Smriti Mandhana is the only person to have won the prestigious women’s cricket award twice in an ICC year. .

Smriti Mandhana was born in Mumbai on July 18, 1996, but when she was two years old, her family moved to the suburb of Madhavnagar in Sangli, Maharashtra, where she spent her growing up years.

Cricket has always been a part of Mandhana’s family and her father played at the district level. Her brother Shravan also played cricket and represented the Maharashtra U-19 team before leaving the game to eventually become a banker.
Although Shravan was not involved in cricket, his presence in Smriti Mandhana’s life had a major impact on her becoming a cricketer. Traveling with her brother, who is four years older than her, to the practice ground, young Smrita’s passion for cricket began.

At the age of nine, Smriti Mandhana made it to the Maharashtra U-15 team and after dominating the best opposition, she was quickly sent to the national U-19 team only at the age of 11.
At the age of 15, Smriti Mandhana found herself at a crossroads as her board exams approached. She wanted to study science, but her mother discouraged her, knowing that it would be difficult to balance cricket and studies.
Mandhana then chose commerce and went on to do her graduation from Chintaman Rao College of Commerce in Sangli. This also helped her to devote more time to cricket.

Smriti Mandhana made her debut for India in a T20 match against Bangladesh Women in Vadodara on April 5. She was only 16 at the time.
On her debut, Smriti Mandhana was India’s top scorer (39 off 36) and helped the team win by 10 runs to end the bilateral series 3-0.
Five days later, on 10 April, Smriti Mandhana made her One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in Ahmedabad. Coming in at number 3, the youngster played a useful innings of 25 off 35 balls.
Surprisingly, Smriti Mandhana’s batting on her debut seemed too big for her frame, even though it was limited. She later revealed that she was not supposed to be playing with a bat, but a practice bat signed by Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid and gifted to her by her brother.

“Shravan met Rahul Sir and asked if he could give him a bat. So he gave it to him and signed it with my name. My brother was very sweet too, he convinced him to sign it for me. I was only going to keep it as a display as an automatic bat from Dravid, but as soon as I picked it, I realized that it has amazing balance and I started playing with it,” said Smriti Mandhana.
Smriti Mandhana smashed an unbeaten 224 off just 150 balls against Gujarat at the Alembic Cricket Ground in Vadodara during the Under-19 one-day tournament. Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to score a double in a 50-over cricket match at any level. In the competition, she reached another two hundred.
On 13 August 2014, Mandhana made her Test debut against England at Wormsley. She scored 22 in the first innings and a winning 51 in the second.
It was also a historic win for the Indian women’s cricket team as Wormsley’s one-off victory marked the team’s first Test match in over eight years.

Since then, Smriti Mandhana has been an integral part of the Indian line-up and one of the pillars of the batting along with Harmanpreet Kaur and the now retired Mithali Raj.
Smriti Mandhana scored her first international century (102 off 109 balls) against Australia in an ODI match at Bellerive Oval, Hobart in 2016. She was selected in the ICC Women’s Team of the Year for that season.
In 2017, Smriti Mandhana played a key role in helping India reach the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, where India lost to England by just nine runs in the final. It was India’s first World Cup final since 2005.
Smriti Mandhana, who had to race against time to be fit for the tournament after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), became India’s third highest scorer in the tournament behind Mithali and Harmanpreet. She scored 232 runs in nine matches, including an unbeaten century against the West Indies.

The following year, Smriti Mandhana became the top run-getter in women’s ODIs and was also the star in India’s run to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World T20 held in the West Indies.
Smriti Mandhana also scored 50 in just 18 deliveries while playing for Western Storm against Loughborough Lightning in Kia Super League 2018, equaling Kiwi ace Sophie Devine’s record for the fastest 50 in women’s T20 cricket.
She won both the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and the 2018 ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year.
