MS Dhoni has been a constant presence in the IPL ever since he was with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Come the IPL 2022 auction, Dhoni will continue to wear the Chennai yellow and there will be no surprises.

Dhoni has led the team to four IPL titles and the franchise has no chance of letting him go unless he calls it a day. This makes CSK one of the new wicket-less sides.

Rohit Sharma is Mumbai’s poster boy and their most successful player, winning five IPL titles with the team.

The record for the most expensive signings in the IPL auction has fallen time and time again as Sam Curran, Cameron Greene and Ben Stokes fetched huge sums.

Here’s a look at the most expensive signings in the league’s history after the IPL 2023 mini auction:

Sam Curran became the most expensive IPL player during the 2023 auction. She was signed by the Punjab Kings.

Curran has gained traction in the auction after becoming the best player in the 2022 T20 World Cup. He was also man of the match in England’s recent win over Australia.

Curran has opted out of the big IPL auction in February 2022, opting to rehabilitate a back injury.

The left winger played for Chennai Super Kings during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He was signed for his IPL debut by Punjab Kings. 7.2 million in 2019.

In 32 matches over three seasons, Curran scored 337 balls at a strike rate of 149.78. Curran also has 32 balls with an economy of 9.21.

Cameron Green was signed by Mumbai Indians for $17.5 million in the IPL 2023 auction held on Friday, becoming the second most expensive player in the IPL.

Royal rivals Bangalore and Delhi Capitals also claimed the all-rounder but the five-time champions eventually signed the 23-year-old.

Green made his T20I debut in Australia in April 2022. In eight matches, Green has a strike rate of 173.75 with two 50+ scores. Both fifties were against India in November 2022 – 61 off 30 balls and 52 off 21 balls.

Ben Stokes was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL auction 2023. He equaled South Africa’s Chris Morris as the third most expensive signing in the IPL.

Stokes has attracted interest from many teams after playing a crucial role in England’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Stocks across England rose to Rs 2 crore. RCB competed with RR before the LSB bid. SRH also entered the field soon after CSK. The MS Dhoni-led team eventually landed Stokes for Rs 16,250,000, the third highest price ever in the IPL.

Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 to guide the Three Lions to victory in the final against Pakistan at the MCG. The right-arm medium bowler also took six balls at an economy rate of 6.79.

Former South Africa opener Chris Morris became the most expensive player in the IPL when Rajasthan Royals bought him in the IPL 2021 mini auction. Morris was released before the auction by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who bought him for INR 10 crore in passed. Morris was involved in a fierce bidding war and its value has increased 21 times from the base price of INR 75 million to a staggering INR 16.25 billion.

Morris emerged as Rajasthan’s leading run-scorer in IPL 2021 with 15 wickets in 11 matches. However, he had a good season with the bat – averaging 13.40. After the season, Morris announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in January 2022.

Nicholas Pooran was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for $16 million in the IPL 2023 auction held on Friday, becoming the most expensive wicketkeeper in the history of the IPL auction.

Poran played for Solar Hyderabad in season 2022. 10,750,000. The franchise, on the other hand, nabbed a keeper ahead of the mini-auction. He scored 306 runs in 14 matches.

Puran also played for Punjab Shah. The West Indian batsman averaged 26.06 over four seasons.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Yuvraj Singh hit the jackpot when he was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for INR 16 crore ahead of IPL 2015. Yuvraj, who is trying to regain his place in the Indian squad, earned a whopping INR 14 crore from RCB last season.

Yuvraj failed to settle the bill against Delhi, managing 248 balls and a single in 14 matches. Delhi released Yuvraj before the next season. Sunrisers Hyderabad then signed him for INR 7 million.

Yuvraj would go on to play four more seasons and complete two IPL trophies – with SRH (2016) and Mumbai Indians in 2019.

Australian seamer Pat Cummins headlined the IPL 2020 auction as collective batsmen sought his services for INR 15.5 million. Cummins took 12 balls for KKR and contributed with ease in the lower order, including a quick spell in his debut season.

Cummins was released by KKR ahead of the 2022 auction and the franchise bought him for INR 7.25 million – half of last year’s record price.

Cummins took seven balls from five overs to hit the fastest fifty (off 15 balls) in IPL history against Mumbai Indians and give KKR a memorable win. However, Cummins’ season was cut short by a hamstring injury. The Australian Test captain was released by KKR ahead of the 2023 mini-auction, with the 29-year-old sitting out the season to stay fit for next year’s Ashes tournament.

Indian wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan became the most expensive signing in the IPL 2022 auction as Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 15.25 billion.

Kishan was first signed by Mumbai Indians in 2018 and became the team’s top scorer in 2020. He scored 516 runs in 14 matches while hitting 30 sixes.

Mumbai Indians have been involved in a fierce bidding war with Hyderabad Suns, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, leading to a meteoric rise in Kishan’s stock. It was the first time Mumbai Indians had bid more than $10 million for a player in an auction. Before signing Kishan, captain Rohit Sharma was MI’s biggest signing in the auction, paying INR 9.2 million for him before IPL 2011.

New Zealander Kyle Jamieson is the second most expensive player in the IPL 2021 auction, with Royal Challengers Bangalore buying the relatively inexperienced T20 player for a staggering INR 15 crore.
