Cricket Bat Size Chart – Your bat is your trusty companion when you’re out in the middle. Choosing the right club involves many different decisions, but the first thing to get right is the size of the clubs.

Cricket bat sizes can be confusing if you are just starting out, but for adult cricket bats, most bats are similar in size. Younger children will have a harder time finding the perfect bat for them. Just as your kids always outgrow their shoes, they will constantly outgrow their cricket bats too. Hopefully they get a big IPL deal one day to repay you for all those junior bats.

The chart below is a simple overview of bat sizes including the age and height of the respective batter. This is a way to make sure you don’t have the completely wrong size club.

Age is mostly an approximation. The most important measurement is your height. Don’t worry too much, especially with the size of junior cricket bats. It’s more about having a club that you feel comfortable using.

Most bats sold are of the “SH” type. This means they have a short handle, but it has been known to be full size, suitable for adult bats up to about 6’3″ or even 6’4″.

“LH” clubs are a good solution for those who need a little extra length. They have about an extra inch inside the handle, which can help with grip, but also with reaching your club. Larger cricketers may find an LH bat suitable, but they are not necessary.

Watching bats in person can be confusing. One of the things that might be hard for you to understand when watching is that most full-grown bats are marked as SH or LH. Both “adult” sizes.

Some manufacturers have slightly different standards and recommendations for their clubs. Gray Nicholls actually recommends that a LH club be used for anyone over 6′ tall. It’s a good idea to get a feel for some clubs and maybe borrow some of your friends’ clubs to shoot, just to see what feels most natural to you.

In addition to the cricket bat size guide, it can be useful to look at the weight of cricket bats to help you make your decision.

Note that “light, heavy, and medium” are not different sizes, but you will hear bats described as light, heavy, or medium depending on whether they are a heavier design.

There are certain rules in the Laws of Cricket regarding the size of the bat. It must be no more than 38 inches (965 mm) long, no more than 4.25 inches (108 mm) in width, no more than 2.64 inches (67 mm) in overall depth, and no more than 1.56 inches (40 mm) in edge.”

The origin of the rules is actually very funny. In the ‘Monster Bat Incident of 1771’, laws were issued after a cricketer attempted to play in a county match with a bat that was the width of the entire wicket!
