Certain elements of Internet gambling, including isolation, lack of distraction, and continuous, easy access, have been argued to create specific risks. However, stories that can be seen by players can identify signs of behavioral problems and specific personal connections that push particular and disturbing messages. The organizational design of an online gambling environment (website or app) can have a strong influence on individual behavior. However, unlike land-based sites, online gambling has several specific guidelines that outline acceptable and unacceptable gambling practices. Harm reduction involves gambling-related strategies that often involve roles and responsibilities for multiple stakeholders, including individual users, business organizations, government regulators and community organizations. This paper provides a framework for how behavioral science can inform appropriate actions by business owners to reduce Internet harm. The Consumer’s Internet Gambling Journey demonstrates how a multidisciplinary network of collaborative efforts can facilitate the reduction of Internet gambling-related harm for consumers at all levels of risk. Joint efforts between stakeholders can result in the implementation of appropriate strategic plans that will help individuals make decisions and engage in healthy and sustainable behaviors.
